Monitor Com 2#13

If you could make where you can monitor com1 and com2 at the same time but only transmit on com1. That way you can grab weather and montior 121.5 (Guard). Thanks

This is also very common for VFR if you are on Flight Following (in EMEA those are also called “information” and overfly a smaller airport to listen if there are planes in the pattern, taking off, etc…

Make sure to record some GUAAAAARRRRRRRRDDDDDD and “meow” transmissions to randomly play on 121.5. As well as an infrequent NORDO call, or if flying in the DC region, a call of USAF radar operator transmitting on guard to notify an aircraft who busted the SFRA.

Why limiting on “only transmit on COM1”?
we can get the info on which COM we’re transmitting via

(A:PILOT TRANSMITTER TYPE,Enum)

ENUM:
0 = COM1
1 = COM2
2 = COM3

And we’re even able to switch the COM device (tested in A32nx and Asobo TBM) If you wanna test: try to switch between COM1 and COM2 for transmitting:

(A:PILOT TRANSMITTER TYPE,Enum) 0 == if{1} els{0} (>K:PILOT_TRANSMITTER_SET)

So it’s not uncommon that we’re working with multiple COMs in the home-cockpits and would like to use them all in BeyondATC as well.

Only problem I see, is if “listening” to two or three tuned frequencies, it multiplies the traffic and ressource consumption.

From an audio perspective I don’t see too big issues. BATC just needs to monitor the frequency that is the active one for transmitting and reacting on this one while playing all Frequencies that are tuned for monitoring. That’s also available via

(A:COM RECEIVE:index,bool)

where index is the index of the COM device (COM1 = 1, COM2 = 2 etc.)

I tried it in A32nx as well as TBM and it seems to work like a charm getting and setting the right devices.

PE and SI both have demonstrated the ability to detect which COM is selected for MIC, and which COM are selected for Listen. This is a fundamental aspect of ATC communications (and pilot training) during changing phases of flight and ground ops, and certainly for single pilot scenarios.

Well, at least this pilot student training relevant issue of com handling is still on “investigating” and not rejected.

Hopefully BATC will not only focus on funny and gameification stuff and keep those more serious aspects on the road map as well.

Really looking forward for it.

Atleast the ability to tune ATIS for weather without leaving com1, plz plz

I 100 percent agree; this is huge for workload management.

Just purchased BATC today and looking through this feature feedback. Honestly surprised this isn’t a capability as it’s standard behavior in flight to use Com2 for ATIS while listening/transmitting on Com1. Hopefully this gets implemented.

Hey Lagrik, you can already use com 2 to monitor ATIS within BeyondATC, you just cannot transmit over it or use it for other frequencies.

We have other priorities at the moment but this is still on the board for review.

Hope that helps!

Yeah it’s only currently available for ATIS

As we think about VFR starting up it would be great to have this. Need to switch between making CTAF calls while you’re still on with approach for example

The issue is that SI enables COM1 and COM2 radios to be used as they are in an actual aircraft, and this is important for realism and training purposes. So just keep in mind that it’s a differentiator that draws users from one platform to the other in some cases. That has been my argument from the beginning.

Definitely agree with the importance increasing with the cusp of VFR around the corner. Hate to point to another AI tool, but also appreciate the sentiment in the comment above that it’s a differentiator with SI.

Not being able to use the comms how you would in real life seriously sucks. This shouldn’t just be on the board for review, it should be a high priority.

Not having the ability to monitor and transmt on Com2 or Com3 breaks the immersion. It also reduces the functinoality of hardware radio panels that are entering home sim markets. Please implement!
