Make a custom route without Simbrief#157

?

I will regularly be flying into closed airports that aren’t on Simbrief. So it would be helpful to be able to put in a custom route.

Yes! A simple text field that I can paste a route would be ideal

The issue will be that BATC uses real aircraft flight data so if you use an airport they have no data for, then you get no traffic.

That said, I like the idea as long as it isn’t too complex. If a new feature isn’t easier than using simbrief then there is no point. And simbrief is very easy…

Also, I’d love to be abble to see GA aircraft fly patterns at airports, especially GA, but no reason to not have them at larger airports. Entering an active pattern is a great skill to practice.

Means, Simbrief - an external service is mandatory for BATC.
If Simbrief is down for any reason, there’s no way to use BeyondATC.

If Navigraph decides to offer Simbrief only with payed subscription… The same.

Imho the external dependency is an additional argument besides the “closed airports” which of course will not show any traffic then.

MSFS 2024 has its own flight planner, hopefully SimBrief can be optional. Also would allow it to potentially work with the Career mode.

More to say?
Simbrief not available === BATC unuseable.

Disengaging from only using simbrief data would make bATC independent from a third party company (other than flight simulator itself). It would also allow for historic data if navdata was read from the sim or other sources, and if it could be tied to the sim’s internal data, the navaid will always be present. bATC being able to accept its own flight plan using the sim’s navdata if someone wanted to file a non-automatic/lazy flightplan would be fantastic. The navdata in fs2024 is remarkably current, more current than the free version of simbrief. The planner dot flightsimulator dot com site by microsoft is a powerful flight planning tool, and easy to use. Also, for some of us, bATC was the only addon in their budget and won’t be paying for a subscription to anyone else.

Why would one company tie its fate to another third party for very long when the internal data is now good and decently current?

Accepting something like a .pln format and using the msfs database should be pretty high on the list as an option. It wouldn’t make bATC a flightplanner, it would just make it able to accept other flightplanners.

Make BATC finally useable with Navigraph, that should be your target.

Just a text field like in other apps would be enough imho. Copy/paste seems to me far easier and versatile than some. pln that I first need to create somewhere just to be deleted afterwards.
Just my 2ct.

I’ve been expecting this from day one and have been very disappointed because flight plan can also be read from MSFS, All that is needed is to be able to send the current flight plan to BATC from the in-game panel or a button on the app to read the flight plan from the aircraft. Aircrafts are equiped with navigation systems capable of creating flight plans so do not necessarily need to go to simbrief to do that. I don’t even know why this is a discussion, so what would have happened if there was no simbrief, would they have given up the development?

Simbrief free data mismatch with sim makes it really hard to fly, You will constantly run into procedures that don’t exist, waypoints that have changed, etc. etc. BATC is essentially forcing you to subscribe to navigraph to have a good experience. We need to be able to input a route manually and use 100% sim data.
