Pattern VFR#1727

M

Why not using the real VFR Jepperson /ICAO Pattern shown in Navigraph?
Default Pattern is not really realistic.

Hiya, as explained in our showcase video, we don’t have the data available for this. So we have to dynamically calculate it based on terrain and parallel runways.

You can change the circuit direction before or during your circuits and where we can improve the default selection in the future we will.

The pattern info at every US airport can be found in the Chart Supplement published by the FAA. KSBP in the Oregon Sup section states under RWY 33: PAPI(P4L)—GA 3.0º TCH 40´. Rgt tfc <– indicating right traffic. The current NW Chart Sup file alone lists right traffic 185 times. As the Chart Sup files are all PDF, your AI could easily parse the files to learn which airports and runways default to right traffic. Further, traffic direction is published on all VFR sectional charts as “RP” in the airport data block.

I’m afraid it’s not as simple as that. We don’t have an ‘ai’ to do this. Our program is a traditional program with databases and hard coded logic with layers using LLMS for specific purposes. Data parsing is not one of them.

We need a robust data source and the time to parse this information and then continue to maintain it. Our VFR implementation is in early stages and we’re looking to improve on a lot of areas over the course of it’s development. You can change the direction of the circuit before or during your circuit to better align with real world ops in the meantime
