Be able to ask for a heading change to get around weather and then report back when able to resume course

in real world, we can ask either left or right track at xx miles due to weather, and ask back on track.

Yes! I tried this, ATC asked for a waypoint name and got stuck in a loop when I replied “cancel my previous request”.
that is a ‘direct waypoint’ request. this is a request either left or right 10nm (example) from your current track, due weather.

I requested “10 degrees right for weather”. ATC replied “say the name of the waypoint”. Not what I was expecting.
in the real life, since i’m HAM radio operator and always monitor singapore radar on 8.942Mhz (HF) primary and 5.655Mhz secondary, pilot will asked how far (in nm) either left or right of track and ATC will asked pilot to report back when ready for back on track.
